A Volunteer Coordinator at Alabama Hospice of the Shoals truly went above and beyond to help a patient on a particularly hot summer day. Barbara Johnson, also known as Barbie, noticed that a patient’s house had a broken air conditioner. Although the temperature was into the 100’s, the family had no means to afford a new and functioning AC unit. Barbie did everything she could to help: she took to social media to get donations, and even contacted a local store chain to get a discount on a new unit. Within a few hours she had enough funds to purchase a new air conditioner for the patient and their family, and even got a second one donated from the store for any future patient or family needs.
