Harris Palliative Care and Hospice had a patient who had just lost her son, and her only company was her loyal dog. One day the patient shared with Social Worker Casey Jo Day her love of baking pecan pies around the holiday time for her family. Since the patient didn’t have anyone else to spend the holidays with, Casey Jo made it a point to visit her weekly and help her bake pecan pies. By reaching out to this patient to assist her in doing something that brought meaning and joy to her life, Casey Jo gave her the gift of caring and compassion. Casey Jo ensured that even though this holiday season was different for the patient, it was still filled with heartfelt memories and the sweet smell of homemade pecan pie.
